Feb 15 - 21, 2013 Great Sailfishing
Feb 15 - 21, 2013 Great Sailfishing

Just finished up with first group in Guatemala.  Great guys and fishing.  We caught a handfull of sailfish the first two days, but raised 17, hooked 15, and caught 10 the last day.  Super times just 15 miles out the inlet.  Hopefully the bite will continue.
Feb 22-27,2013 Constant Sailfishing Action
Feb 22-27,2013 Constant Sailfishing Action

Just finishing up with a group today and new group coming into the airport.  Fishing was really good this week.  We raised pretty much 10-20 sails each day.  The first few days we caught a handfull of sails, but really did it up the last day.  Raising 18, had a good shot at 13, hooked 11, and caught 10.  Got back in by 4 pm to get ready for the next day.  Great group of 64 to 74 years young group.  Hope I am tough as them when I am 70.  Fishing is still 10-15 miles out.
Feb 28 - Mar 4, 2013 Sails and a Norte
Feb 28 - Mar 4, 2013 Sails and a Norte

Great fishing the first day with new group.  Raised 23, had a shot at 13, hooked 11, caught 10.  Many of the sails would just come up for a few seconds and leave, and others would just slap the teaser or bait around but not commit to eating the ballyhoo.  The second day proved more challenging as the fish were not in the area they have been for the last few weeks.  The fleet separated in search of the sails.  We raised 4, only had a shot at 2, caught 1.  The Norte, which is simillar to our bad North East winds came in the 3rd day and limited our fishing to near shore.  The Nortes only last 1 to 2 days here, then it is back to calm seas.  Normally Guatemala only get one Norte every month or two this time of the year.
March 5-10, 2013 Sails and missed Blue Marlin
March 5-10, 2013 Sails and missed Blue Marlin

The fishing slowed down this week.  We did raise from 4-10 sails a day.  Caught about half, but we did gamble one day.  We went way offshore and put out the big lures for marlin.  Sure enough we had one miss the rigger teaser, slam the right short teaser, and as we were clearing the other teasers and throwing out the spanish pitch bait, she hit the center teaser 30 foot behind the boat.  Crazy, but we could not get her on a bait.  Great group and fun fishing, even though it is slow for Guatemala, it would be great fishing in NC.
March 11-19, 2013 Guatemala
March 11-19, 2013 Guatemala

Fished about every day with last two groups.  Fishing slowed a little but did manage to catch a few sails with one group.  Last group we had two great days raising 10-14 sails a day, had a shot at half of them, and caught 5.  Also, had an incredible Blue Marlin attach that is burned into my memory, but we could not get the hooks in her.  300+ lbs, but did not want to commit to the spanish pitch bait.  Thanks to all that came this year.  Ready for 2014 already.  Cheers, CM

April 8-15, 2013 Dolphin, Nice Blackfins, and Alberts on Charter in Atlantic Beach, NC

Charter Saturday was tough.  The weatherman missed calling for NE winds 20 to 30 knots against a 3.5 knot current.  WOW. Ruff!!  Anyway, we managed to catch a handful of dolphin, 2 nice Blackfins (one 20 lbs,a citation), and a lot of alberts.  We also pulled off one wahoo behind the boat. Fishing was generally slow for the entire fleet, but there were also a few good wahoo catches during the week.  Open for charters this weekend, so give us a call if you are in the Morehead City, Emerald Isle, or Atlantic Beach, NC area.

Charter middle of the week fishing was a little tuff.  We did manage to catch wahoo, some blackfin tuna, and a handful of dolphin.  Had a tournament the weekend and wow was the fishing great.  Caught 300 plus lbs of wahoo, dolphin, and blackfin on Saturday.  Also, hooked a 400 lb Blue Marlin 25 feet behind the boat switching it from the teaser to the lure.  Wow, It took about a minute while we had on one dolphin, then afterwards we got attacked by 4 more dolphin.  We managed to catch the dolphin in a few minutes, then caught the Blue on the 80 wide in about 25 minutes.  Incredible!!  Great group of people.  Sunday, the SE winds slowed down the bite, but we did catch a handful of dolphin, some blackfin, and 2 wahoo.  One was 44 lbs which won the tournament. Call for a charter this week, I have open days.  Thanks, CM

Always a great week with friends and fishing.  We did manage to win a little money, but hopefully next year will be the big one.  The Blue Marlin we caught was 103 inches long.  We just did not feel she was 400 lbs.  We estimated 375, thinking she might be closer to 350 than 400.  Would have decked her if it had been the last day.  Also, caught a white marlin and a good handfull of dolphin.  Thanks to all the great friends again.  Cheers, Capt Mike

December 16 - 22, 2013 INCREDIBLE FISHING REPORT
December 16 - 22, 2013 INCREDIBLE FISHING REPORT

Gotcha.  I new that would get everyones attention.  First let me say thanks to my many friends / customers.  Pelagic fished 138 days this year with its fleet.  Not bad in this economy, but it would not ever happen without repeats and referals.  Thanks again.  Most people that know me know how private I can be with personal matters, but this post will show that I am a changing man.  Know one has dedicated themselves more to charter fishing over the last decade than me, before the bad economy I was doing over 180 trips a year.  I realize now that I need to start putting that same effort into relationships with family and friends.  Most everyone knows that my house burned down about 2 years ago.  Tuff!  Thanks so much to Wallace and Kathy Baker, TrendMark, for building this great house.  Cathy even started my facebook page because I was so stubborn. Thanks. Also, at that same time Pam and I divorced after 16 years of marriage.  Thank goodness we are getting along much better now.  My daughter McKayla, 16 years old, is my biggest pride. I love her.  This year I have had to move my mom 6 times because she is not doing well.  Huntington's Disease.  I just had to move her to the Carolina House of Greenville.  A more locked unit.  Wow its hard trying to do the right thing for your parents.  I want to thank Tracie Deal for helping me everytime along with her sister's information and grandma's love making the transitions easier.  Thanks again, I do not know if I could of handled it myself.  Thanks Tracie.  You deserve nothing but the best life has to offer.  Even the last few days have been very very hard on me and even had my first sleepless nite.  I did manage 4 hours last night.  Things are improving.  I really thought this Christmas was going to be the worst ever as my family is almost non-existing.  Thank goodness for GREAT neighbors and friends like Tommy and Dee.  Tommy's 86 years young. However, as I was jogging this morning it hit me harder than ever.  In 2014, I am turning this house into a home.  Home with friends and family over more to warm it up.  I also challenge you all to do the same.  I could list 10 more really tough things that have happened over the last year, but I do not want to bore you.  Make sure your HOME this Christmas is full of joy.  If I can get thru all this after being down in the dumps low lately, and now be positive, you can too.  Love your family and friends, help them, and never take a single day for granted!!  Know that the only thing that matters in the end is this relationships that you have cherished thru the years.   Merry Christmas to all.  Capt Mike
